PAPAMOA CRICKET CLUB TAKE OUT RESERVE & B GRADE WESTERN BAY CHAMPIONSHIPS

With NZ Cricket blanket cancellation of cricket due to the Coronavirus pandemic, saw the two Western Bay of Plenty Cricket titles awarded to the winners of the season-long round-robin competitions.

Papamoa Cricket Club won both the Reserve and B Grade title races, with the Papamoa second B Grade side, finishing in a tie for second place with long-time contenders Grasshoppers.

The Papamoa team who were making their Reserve Grade debut, led from season start, losing just three encounters on the way with 16 victories and a rained out match on their ledger card.

Greerton Kings and Sikh Sports who finished second and third on the points tally, were in hot pursuit of the Reserve Grade Championship winners throughout the season, with Mount Maunganui rounding out the top four.

Individual Reserve season honors, saw R&A Sangha all-rounder Yogesh Kumar take out the batting and bowling double, with 636 runs and 42 wickets, with Papamoa's Ryan Balsom taking 27 catches.

Papamoa Wanderers also led from season start in the B Grade Championship, with just three stains of defeat in their scorebook, with one of the losses coming in a Papamoa derby with the PapaOMA's.

Grasshoppers and PapaOMA's couldn't be separated with 12 wins apiece, with defending title holders Greerton rounding out the top four.

Greerton's Jasvir Dhillon led the way in the B Grade batting stakes with 692 runs, with Daryll Morrison from the Albion CC taking 34 wickets. Papamoa Wanderers Ash Williamson held 23 catches during the 18 rounds of the B Grade season.

Two grades of the Most Valuable Player was calculated on the CricHQ cricket scoring website, which found the best all-round performances spread over runs, wickets and catches throughout the season.
